Testimonials

I joined this competition because it was such a rare opportunity to explore both film and literature. The most challenging bit was definitely finding clips that would present the theme of female otherness in a sensitive and nuanced way. Since I made my film through imovie, the process was relatively easy but was at times frustrating simply because I was so inexperienced. I think my success in this year’s competition just goes to show how you can produce a good piece of work with zero experience as long as you stay committed and determined throughout. I am definitely proudest of the transitions in my film which I spent so much time perfecting as well as manipulating the music to match the rhythm of my speech. All in all, such an enriching experience! I cannot wait to put something together for the art section.”

— Megan Lee, First Prize Winner 2022

The process of judging was most rewarding, not least because of my direct encounters with creative minds working within a multi-challenging medium. Seeing the different ways candidates brought variety and impact into their work was fascinating. Though a clear winner emerged for me immediately I saw her work, I’d like to congratulate all entrants for engaging and moving me – and making me think – with their heartfelt and imaginatively put-together contributions.”

“Thank you for such engaging, original, and creative contributions. It was a pure pleasure to see such diverse and dynamic responses to a wide selection of poetry. I would encourage anyone who's curious to let their imaginations loose in this unique competition.”
